Bayport History
🚆 First Train Station in Bayport
The first railroad service reached Bayport in 1868, when it appeared on the timetable of the South Side Railroad of Long Island.
The first depot (station building) was built by local residents in March 1869 with materials provided by the railroad.
A new station building replaced it in 1903, and the station ultimately closed in 1980.

📬 First Post Office in Bayport
A post office was established in 1858, and the town adopted the name “Bayport” at that time to avoid confusion with another town named Southport.
One early postmaster was William B. Arthur (1870–1885), whose building north of the train tracks served as the first post office site.
📍 The current Bayport post office building dates to 1956.
